However, I fought him using the Twin Serpent Staff despite the Wind Bear Staff being available, and I definitely felt like I was doing a pretty piddly amount of damage - I'd recommend using the Wind Bear Staff if you want things to go more smoothly. I would also recommend that you have the Pillar Stance unlocked. It'll make it easier to land big hits when The First Prince is left vulnerable but too far away to hit with a melee attack (which will happen frequently).

He will swipe at you in the air twice as he does this. Both of these swipes and his lunge are quite slow, so you should be able to easily dodge them. Once he hits the ground, he'll be vulnerable for a few seconds, though get to his left side, as he will slam his right hand down as he gets up. Make sure to lay into him when he is on the ground.

DON'T try to immobilize and stagger him when he is preparing to perform one of his big attacks. You won't be able to stagger him, you'll just eat the attack once he unfreezes. He is very hard to stagger in general, and I was never able to knock him out of one of his big attacks. Additionally, standing on top of your pole isn't going to help you avoid much. Don't get cute and try it. Just circle him and get to his back!
